Study abroad wisdom conversation with Meg:
(I was sitting on the front porch typing at a hammock while Meg took down her laundry. We were listening to Cuban propaganda music after going to see a parade of over a hundred cowboys.)
Meg taking down her laundry. At our center we dry all our clothes on a clothesline.
Tammy: Wow! I am so happy here.
Meg: Yeah, it’s really cool when those waves of realization just hit you.
Tammy: The funny thing is I’m not unhappy at home. I love everyone there. It’s just I’m so glad to be here.
Meg: Something really important about being abroad is learning that happiness is something that comes from inside you. Your friends, family, and boyfriend can be wonderful but you can be happy on your own.
Tammy: Very true.
Meg: There are some people who have the most perfect lives and are miserable because they don’t understand that.
Tammy: It really doesn’t matter what your job is or where you live; it’s all in your attitude.
Laura hangs out in the hammock, relaxing on our Sunday off.
